The task of buying any professional software package is a big decision. You need to consider all aspects to truly understand the costs or savings involved. The hardware & software costs are just two factors, with your labor hours being the biggest investment and the object of this whole procedure.
Over the course of the first year alone, labor costs will exceed the cost of the software purchase. If a system has all the features you're looking for, you'll save in your labor costs. On the other hand, if a system doesn't have all the features your looking to automate, there is a direct cost associated with having to complete the tasks manually, month after month. This labor cost should be added to the purchase price of the incomplete software package to enable a true comparison. |
Also, the cost of switching systems after a unsuccessful startup is the biggest concern. In hindsight, you could buy the system of your choice, regardless of cost and still have considerable money and labor hours. Consider that most companies look to spread the cost of software over at least a 3 to 5 year period. When you do this, the software of choice may be less expensive that one that is not as fully featured. Take the difference in cost between two software products, divide that number by sixty months and you'll see that the cost per month is less than you would expect. Now wouldn't it be less expensive to pay the small monthly premium for the preferred software than to expense countless labor hours to complete monthly tasks that the incomplete software is incapable of?
Don't sell yourself short, the rental business is very detailed and requires a great deal of accurate detail in order to be successful. Automation is the key, and selecting a company that is experienced in rental management will only make you more successful.
