Google’s Mobile Algorithm vs Your Vacation Rental Website

Google’s Mobile Algorithm vs Your Vacation Rental Website

Google’s new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm launched April 21, 2015. Meaning: your vacation rental website will now be partially ranked by how well your website pages can be navigated and read on mobile devices. This is your website’s “mobile-friendliness”. The algorithm is quite simple, your website pages are either mobile friendly or they are not. No partial points you are in or you are out. The algorithm ranks on a page by page basis. How can you find out if your website pages are up to Google’s standard of Mobile Friendly The easiest way to find out if your website pages are up to Google’s Mobile Friendly standards by google searching your site on a mobile device and seeing if your site results come back with the label like the one to the right. On the slim chance you don’t have your mobile device nearby for search purposes (come on man), you can utilize Google’s Mobile Friendly Tester. A nifty tool that lets you paste in page urls, Google combs the site and comes back with a pass or fail response. What makes a website mobile friendly? Using a font size that is readable without zooming. Making sure your tap targets/links are large and spread out enough to be pressed without error. Size content to the screen size so the viewer is not scrolling horizontally or having to zoom in or out. And avoiding using software like Flash that is not widely recognized by mobile devices. How can you get your vacation rental website passing Google’s Mobile Friendly test? The good news is that you have a couple options on how to get your site mobile ready. The bad news unless you are able to code, you will have to spend some $$ to get the results Google is looking for. Option 1. Hire a web designer to create either an entirely new responsive website or a mobile version of your site (usually accessed via a m.yourwebsiteurl.com). There are plenty of website companies capable of doing this but I would suggest going to a company familiar with the vacation rental industry. They already have all the technology to connect to your Management Software and know the ins and outs of multiple rental pages, bookings and checkouts. The following website companies already have APIs that connect directly to the RNS Vacation Rental Software Option 2. Start using RNS Mobile Pages. RNS’ quick and easy mobile optimized sites are designed with user friendly interfaces that promote fast and easy bookings. Your company is given all the tools and technologies necessary to capitalize on this current mobile market and pass all of Google’s Mobile Friendly parameters. Optimized Mobile Recognition Simplified User Interface Full Search capability Mobile Optimized Rental Photos One-Click Call Now Options Mobile Contact Forms Fast Loading Pages Easy Booking Process To learn more about RNS mobile pages CLICK HERE   Check out these resources to better understand the method to Google’s Mobile Madness. Don’t lose prospective guests or SEO ranking because your vacation rental website isn’t mobile ready. An easy fix is just a couple clicks...

The VRMA – Portland, Oregon & Hipsters

The VRMA – Portland, Oregon & Hipsters

What do the VRMA, Portland, Oregon and hipsters have in common? Plain flat out Awesomeness, that’s what. Ask a hipster he would know. There is also the fact that all 3 will be colliding at the Western Regional VRMA conference, April 13 & 14, held at the Portland Marriott Downtown Riverfront in Portland, Oregon! In honor of such a great event in such a great city we decided to dedicate this blog post to the ever so quirky Portland. Because really what is a vacation rental without the beautifully unique cities they reside in. Portland, Oregon is one of the most stereotyped cities in America (It’s full of hipsters, arts & crafts, coffee, hipsters, craft beer, tree-huggers, hipsters, hipsters; you get the picture). So we thought we would have a little fun and see how true those perceptions really are. We love you Portland ❤ 1. Hipsters Everywhere. Hipster is a type of counter culture who creates “cool” before society deems it “cool” and ergo is “not cool” anymore. (Those sneaky hipsters always keeping us “average people” on our toes..) This type of fringe culture started migrating west in the 60’s (think LA, Berkley, San Fran). Portland was just the next northward progression to accommodate the free spirited. And so when you walk down the streets of Portland today, a plethora of beards, deep v-necks, crop tops and suspenders flood the streets and record stores alike. And it is because of these folk that the city is and will remain so exciting and ever changing. So Hip on Hipsters. We Beard You. TRUE. 2. Portlandians Love Craft Beer. Oregon makes up 36.69% of all US craft beer sales, the highest of all states. There are 220 breweries in Oregon and almost half of those (83) are located in Portland. I think we can cheers and drink a growler (64 ounces of hoppy goodness) to this as TRUE. 3. All of Portland is Vegan. Yes, Portland has more vegetarian restaurants than any other city in the US. And Yes, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has ranked Portland as the most veg friendly city in America. But considering only 3.2% of America is Vegetarian and Portland’s most renowned restaurants are Le Pigeon and Toro, whose names have a type of meat in the title and are known for their foie gras, squab and oxtail dishes. It seems to me that Portland is home to a couple more carnivores than they are given credit for, fancy ones too (squab, really?) FALSE. 4. Tree-Hugging, Bike-Riding, Dog-Loving Enthusiasts I love this stereotype. If more cities had this mentality, our world and human population would be a lot better off. Portlandians love the outdoors its TRUE. They like to keep it clean.Portland has a 75% recycle rate which ranks them 3rd best recycling city in America. They want to make it green. For the past ten years Portland has continually reduced its carbon footprint. It’s one of the most bike friendly cities in the US and has award winning public transportation. They use sunscreen Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, or a simple walk with the dog, this city can accommodate any outdoor activity better than most cities can accommodate one. With specialty stores, excursion companies and pet friendly businesses everywhere, Portland...

Winter Vacation Fails

Bring on the Winter! Daily life still trudges on no matter the weather. But when the average human is ready for their eagerly anticipated winter vacation(s) more serious decisions must be made. Go tropical to the beach, drink pina coladas and get a tan… OR Head north to the mountains, hit the slopes and make snowmen… Wherever this winter takes you, be smart: stay in a vacation rental. Also learn from these winter vacation fails, in essence just use your common sense.   Going South? Before you board the plane, check your car windows.   In the south, snowmen are just people in costumes.   Watch out for sea creatures   This is real life. Embrace it!   Wear sunscreen. Please.   Because how cute is that puppy on the beach!   Going North? Leave the convertible down south.   This is not acceptable winter wear. EVER.   What did he think was going to happen?   Warning southerners: this is a scam.   Hertz Rental is not going to be happy   But how cute is that puppy covered in...

It’s Halloween, So We Wrote a Blog

It’s Halloween, So We Wrote a Blog

HAPPY HALLOWEEN and HAPPY FRIDAY! Two great events combined into one day! How did we get so lucky? As 3:30pm strolls around, I’m pretty sure the working world is feeling like the day could last forever. We sit at our computers counting down the minutes before we can all let lose, dress up and share company with friends. So I have decided to write a blog. Not about vacation rentals, or software, or even a blog with many words. But rather a blog about Halloween and the cute funny costumes we wish we could recreate for ourselves, our kids and even our pets. We all have been there, 6:30pm on Halloween with half a costume, fabric everywhere, glitter in the carpet, kids crying and superglue in your hair. Shoot, I wouldn’t hesitate to say 30% of the people that might read this blog will be going back home to a situation quite close to that. So, not to waste anymore time on the inevitable, here is a collection of wonderfully creative costumes that the average Joe is never going to recreate. Sorry…not Frankly, I’m not convinced this is a real person at all. If all the hobos were actually this cute, they would all be rich. I can’t even keep a chia pet alive, let alone make this costume. A Lego you won’t actually step on in the middle of the night. Dobby has never looked so kissable. Turtle or Dog? I’m not sure. Still not sure some of these are living breathing people. The picture says it all. Dogs of the future, finally no need for a swiffer. Just let it sink in, must of us can’t get one costume to look good, let alone a family of 7 winning the costume contest. Happy Trick or Treating and Costume...

VRMA 2014 – Cream of the Crop

VRMA 2014 National Convention The Cream Of The Crop The VRMA 2014 is over. It’s time to get back to the daily grind of renting vacation homes, creating software, processing credit cards, building websites, and making travelers happy from all parts of the world. It is with great satisfaction that I can safely announce that this year’s show was CREAM OF THE CROP. Now, I don’t say this lightly because last year’s National VRMA was pretty awesome. Nashville was great, the seminars were wonderful, and the attendees were pretty cool. But San Diego 2014 had even more awesomeness. VRMA 2014 hit records – This year’s attendance was the most ever with over 1,000 attendees! The vendor showcase sold out of spots months before the show, and we had over 70+ education seminars available to get our knowledge on. Back in Bradenton, FL 2,091 miles from San Diego – The RNS staff would like to thank the VRMA for a job well done. And to all the attendees – Speakers, Vendors, and Management Companies – I present this award to you – you are the Vacation Rental Industry’s CREAM OF THE...

Vacation Rental Companies Giving to a Good Cause

Vacation Rental Companies Giving to a Good Cause

Vacation Rental Companies Give to a Good Cause The act of giving. It’s thoughtful, selfless, and admirable. When our RNS customers take the opportunity to give back to the world, it makes us all giddy inside and deserves recognition. The good cause we are talking about here benefits the Manatee Players and the Manatee Performing Arts Center; a theater and education center located in Bradenton, Florida. Their motto reads :“To represent, enrich and stimulate people through the art of live theater by providing entertainment, education and an artistic outlet. The Manatee Players and its performance venue serve as a significant cultural, educational and economic resource for the Florida Gulf Coast region.” The players were having their annual Crystal Gala, a black and tie event with dinner, entertainment, with silent and live auctions. All proceeds will go back into the Center and Manatee Players initiatives of changing and enriching lives regionally through the art and education of live entertainment. The Manatee Players is RNS’ local theater here in Bradenton. As we thought about how we could help the cause we reached out to some of our RNS customers to see if they would do the same and they jumped at the opportunity to help. Larry Chatt owner of Island Real Estate in Anna Maria, Florida was first to respond. His company donated a wonderful 5 night vacation stay in one of his beautiful vacation homes on Anna Maria Island. A whooping $1100 value! Anna Maria Island is located just west of the Players Theater in Bradenton. This type of community involvement will bring a bright future for Manatee County. One full of locals helping locals. Thanks Island Real Estate! Then there was Bill Stofko of Historic Hideaways in Key West. Who donated a 5 night stay in one of their 2 bedroom historic Florida vacation rentals. The donation value was up to $2000. It really warmed our hearts that Historic Hideaways wanted to volunteer their resources to help enrich a community not correlated with Key West. Way to Go Historic, Thank You! The night went off without a hitch; Bob Ackerman of RNS was there to see the happy faces of the Vacation Rental winners. We really do have the best customers at RNS Vacation Rental Software and we thank you for that! Feeling philanthropic after reading this post? Good! Get up and go out into your community, start volunteering in something you believe in. Let’s #Octobetter ourselves this...
